NEW! Annual ornamental, medicinal and edible plant for outdoor cultivation. Native to the Middle East and India. Has been cultivated in Europe since the Middle Ages. Has densely leafy stems up to 60 cm high. In the summer forms many spectacular, large, orange-red flowers, which produce large, edible seeds.
These seeds contain up to 40% of valuable edible oil, which is considered the healthiest (contains the largest amount of unsaturated fatty acids which inhibit the formation of harmful cholesterol in the body). Infusion made of flowers is used for decontamination and treatment of wounds or burns.
Safflower likes sun and can tolerate less favourable conditions such as poor, dry soil. Easy to grow. Sown from April to June.
