Centaurea imperialis (Persian Starthistle)
(Centaurea imperialis) Annual or perennial (in warmer climates) flowering plant, comes from the mountainous borderland between Iran and Iraq. It grows up to 80 cm, forms dense clumps of stems with grey-green leaves. From July to September blooms profusely (double flowers up to 6 cm in diameter, bright pastel colours, from creamy white to dark pink and yellow). Flowers have a shaded colours (flower centre is darker or lighter than the petals) and are fragrant. Likes sun and fertile permeable soil. Not resistant to severe colds, can be overwintered in a frost-free room in pots. Sown from March to April.
