Has ligneous, twining shoots,densely covered with half-evergreen five-lobed leaves (they do not fall during milder winters). In spring blooms very profusely (clusters of purple-pink flowers with Cardamom scent. Then forms cucumber-like, pink fruits (circa 10 cm length). Fruits" flesh is edible, aromatic and very sweet. These fruits are a popular dessert in Japan, Korea and China.

These seeds are among the tastiest and most nutritious grains of the world. They contain up to 19% of very valuable protein, which is almost identical to cow's milk protein. Quinoa's grains, however, are not rich in calories, because of the low content of sugars (only 5%).
