Ornamental tree up to 5 ms high, native to Japan. Has a broad umbrella crown and feathery, very large leaves resembling leaves of tropical trees. All parts of trees are spiny - spines are especially visible on the trunk and branches. Large and showy cream-white inflorescences appear in summer.
This tree likes sunny, sheltered places and any average type of soil, even dry and arid, is very resistant to pests and diseases. Completely frost-hardy, although very late frosts can damage the ends of shoots. Do not prune healthy shoots. Rapid growth.
