Ornamental shrub native to China, grows up to 1.5 ms in height. Has a very long flowering period: from June to October erect racemes (11 cm long) of pea-like purple-pink flowers. They were formerly used to dye fabrics. Feathery leaves are also ornamental.
Likes sunny, sheltered places and fertile, moist soil. Frost-hardy (with winter protection in colder climates). Rapid growth.
